Noise Zones

The Law Library has three different noise level designations to facilitate various types of activity. The maps below and the signage throughout the Law Library will help you select an appropriate location for individual study, group work, or respectful conversation and cell phone use.

	Quiet Zones are areas around the Law Library where users can engage in individual, quiet study. When in the Quiet Zones users should not engage in talking, whispering, or cell phone use. Quiet Zones include study carrels and tables located in the library stacks and tables and chairs located in the Robert L. Oakley Reading Room.
	Collaborative Zones are areas around the Law Library where users should expect to hear others engaging in group conversations. When in the Collaborative Zones, users are free to engage in longer group conversations, respectful cell phone use, and attend virtual meetings and events. Collaborative Zones include the Group Study Rooms located on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Floors, as well as the Open Collaborative Area located on the 1st Floor. Use the Study Space Booking System to reserve a Group Study Room.
	Community Zones are areas around the Law Library where users should expect to hear some moderate levels of noise due to them being located in high-traffic areas, such as Legal Eats, the Atrium, and the landings on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Floors. When in Community Zones, users are free to engage in respectful cell phone use and moderate conversations with other individuals.
